Prunning Party This Saturday 2/16/13

Hello Members new and returning;

This Saturday we will embark on the annual prunning of the orchard. We have over 20 large fruit trees and 20 smaller fruit trees that need to be prunned for optimal production. David Allie has gratiously agreed to assist us once again with his expertise (he is a professional arborist). He will start out with a short primer on prunning that can be helpful to you in your own backyard. We will begin at 10:00 and prune until it is time to take a break for lunch. It is a potluck so bring a dish to pass (we have enough plates in our outdoor kitchen for this group). We will then work until the job is done or you have to get on to your next activity. We hope to finish by 4:00 p.m. Please bring gloves, clippers, loppers and hand saws if you have them. If you do not we will have some on hand that can be shared. For those of you who do not want to climb trees or ladders there is always work to do in gathering branches and taking them to the chipper. We will also be prepping some of the vegetable beds near the orchard and cleaning up debree from last season.

This event is for adults and older children. We want to make sure that if younger children come they are accompanied by an adult that can watch them as there will be a lot of branches coming down from the trees.

We hope that you can join us rain or shine.
